Poster? What poster?
Well, I have made the tags and affixed one of them to one of my items:
As you can see, you can't see the price tag.
For all we know this could just be a charity sale of random bric-a-brac crap...
It is in there though, as you can see.
But I need something to get passers-by understanding that this isn't just a random rack of clothes! So some poster of sorts is needed. A quick fix as I'm running out of time (however during tutorial it was suggested to explore posters, although at the time I thought little of it as I thought it'd be clear enough from the clothes and tag. No, not really.
So whilst getting to sleep, with thoughts running through my head of what I could do, I wondered...why do I even want to use swear words? How do they link to language? What do others think about swear words in relation to languages, not just my opinion?
So, I thought about installing multiple posters behind the counter with opinions of others of swear words using the phrase "The most.....part of a language is..." with one poster having the logo "SWORN" in the bottom right corner of the installation. Also the posters can hint at my project being at the exhibition if all the clothes sell all at once (unlikely...)
So, I asked my wonderful Facebook friends to give me suggestions:
I asked swear words, not sworn because the sentence is quite ambiguous when out of context, but then got grammar nazi'd on for having terrible...grammar!
It's refreshing to have opinions other than my own or people sitting next to me in the studio! (NB I'm thinking i'll need a few more adjectives....that'd be amazing having a wall of adjectives...wow!)
So this is an example of a poster:
These posters will be printed out in A4 (or A3, I haven't decided yet, I'll see what they look like in A4 first). The Times font is used in order to stay consistent. I'm going to change 'a' for 'any' in order to sound more universal for every language. The capitalisation obviously used on the adjective to stand out. The border is used to divide up each of the posters when they're stuck up.
Yes I know that the posters don't explicitly say "buy from me", but I think it'll be attention-grabbing enough to get people to wonder "why are you putting these posters up? what? clothes? Hmmmm...." Gives people food for thought. How people perceive swear words. This could also persuade people to wear the swears more, if they can see they aren't seen as such a bad thing. One guy said 'influential' on my comment section. I hope they will be. I hope I will be.
"As you can see, you can't see [the price tag.]"
ReplyDeleteI have fallen in love with this sentence.
